Tips for Caring for the Smile While You’re Sick

Posted .

If you’re sick, you need to keep your smile in mind, no matter how inconvenient it may be. This is because your teeth and gums can be in danger while you’re laying in bed or making frequent trips to the bathroom. So, our dentist, Dr. Albert Mendez, has some tips for you so you can maintain a healthy smile while you’re sick. Those tips are:

-Practice good oral hygiene. This means you need to frequently brush and floss. Please remember to replace your toothbrush after you have been sick. You should also wait 30 minutes to brush after vomiting. The best thing to do is to quickly rinse your mouth with water so you don’t suffer a bad taste in the mouth while you wait.

-Use sugar-free cough drops. If you use cough drops that contain sugar, you can increase your chances of having cavities.

-Stay hydrated. This will not only help you get over your sickness, but it can also help you prevent dry mouth. Dry mouth tends to promote cavities and bad breath. When it comes to choosing your beverage, water is your safest choice.
