A Toothache Is Always a Serious Cause for Concern

A pain deep in your gums, or inside one of your teeth is always a serious cause for concern. It is almost always a sign that you need to see Dr. Albert Mendez as soon as possible to have the tooth looked at and problem accurately diagnosed.

If there is no obvious traumatic event that preceded the toothache, then it most likely means that a cavity or other area of tooth decay has penetrated the sensitive interior structures of the tooth. In many of these cased Dr. Albert Mendez will need to perform a root canal to remove any areas of decay and infected material.

If the pain is associated with a direct trauma such as a blow to the face or a hard fall, it might be that the internal structure of the tooth is damaged. If you have blood and debris in your mouth you can rinse it away with lukewarm salt water. This might also soothe injured gums.

For temporary relief of pain, you can try to rub your gums with a topical oral analgesic. If the toothache was caused by trauma and you experience swelling in your cheek, gums or face, you can lightly hold a cold compress on the area for 15 minutes at a time.

If you have a toothache, you need to call Dr. Albert Mendez as soon as possible, at 620-231-6070 to schedule an appointment.
